Other
Industries Served
Sand Casting
By serving the Precision Investment Casting industry
for many years, we have seen a considerable amount of overlap with
the Sand Casting industry. While Sand Casting and Precision
Investment Casting are similar, the differences lie in how the mold
is prepared. Sand casters create a “master” out
of wood, metal or other robust materials and then press that master
into two separate halves of a mold filled with sand. Sand casters
utilize waxes, binders, hot toppings and abrasives such as carbide
burs and mounted points. They also utilize rapid prototyping
equipment and material to visualize new parts or make quick masters.

Metal Powder Production
Through our long relationship with Alcoa Investment
Casting & Forged Products (formerly Howmet),
we have been introduced to the world of metal powder production. This
high-tech industry consumes crucibles, nozzles and tundishes for
its molten metal needs. The metal-powder is created to help
ensure uniformity of material properties throughout the manufacturing
process.
Products
Continuous Casting
Again through relations with the Howmet Corporation,
we have supplied continuous casters with crucibles, nozzles and
tundishes – typically made of zirconia. The continuous
caster is making sheets, beams or rods of certain alloys (usually
aluminum, copper and sometimes steel) that undergo further fabrication. The
actual process of continuous casting is simply forcing molten
metal through an open-ended mold.
Products
Sputtering Targets
This ever-growing industry and the related
thin-film industry supplies the wafers and sputtering targets
for use in many common and nearly essential items, such as hard-drives,
flat-panel televisions, medical implants, integrated circuits
and plenty of other micro-electronic devices. Products
used are crucibles, nozzles and tundishes to make these micro-sized
alloy parts.
Products
Wafer Polishing
The process of polishing an ultra-thin crystalline
silicone wafer requires only the highest quality materials. Polishing
sols, such as SYTON-HT50, remove the microscopic defects on the
surface. These polished wafers are used in a variety of
applications including microelectronics, photonics, optics, acoustics,
and many others.
Products
Bone Ash
The majority of Bone Ash is consumed by the Primary and Milled
Products segments of the aluminum industry. It is for this reason
REMET is distributing Aluminum Grade Bone Ash for these specific
industries.
Bone Ash is prepared by burning the organic material from animal
bones and has long been recognized by the non-ferrous metals
casting industry as a mold release agent offering a number of
benefits unmatched by competitive products.

Ceramic Shape Manufacturing
REMET has been helping customers make ceramic shells/molds
for over 30 years, so supplying materials for the manufacturing
of ceramic shapes was a natural extension. REMET has great
technical depth in making ceramics and binders work well together. This
market consists of several smaller markets including manufacturers
of riser sleeves, kiln furniture, pouring cups, filter boxes,
furnace linings, fiber board and block, fiber fire logs, etc. These
various industries all require the ceramic building materials
along with the binders to form the shapes. In addition, some
utilize rapid prototyping to design new products quickly.
