Shell composition is critical to achieving high surface quality with minimal gas defects and alpha case formation. Remet’s TICOAT® N binder and stabilized Zir Oxide® Stabilized Zirconia flour is the proven starting point. The wax is very critical in Ti casting, and Remet Tiwax is preferred due to its low ash content, which reduces potential gas defects. The intermediate slurry composition will be dictated by the specific castings you’re making. Back-up shell composition is the final key ingredient to successfully casting titanium alloys.
