By serving the Precision Investment Casting industry for many years, we have seen a considerable amount of overlap with the Sand Casting industry. While Sand Casting and Precision Investment Casting are similar, the differences lie in how the mold is prepared. Sand casters create a “master” out of wood, metal or other robust materials and then press that master into two separate halves of a mold filled with sand. Sand casters utilize waxes, binders, hot toppings and abrasives such as carbide burs and mounted points, as well as RG1 Fused Silica as a core material or additive to their core material. They also utilize rapid prototyping equipment and material to visualize new parts or make quick masters.
