Connor Linskey

Born 1980, Belfast, Northern Ireland
Based in London.

Connor’s palette draws on the tropes of advertising, combining some of its most recognizable modes product close-ups, meticulous styling and staging, eye-catching colors into an abstraction of the genre. Juxtaposing a variety of aesthetics from different spheres of advertising, his photographs and sculptures employ a layering to confuse and undermine assumptions about class, economics, and gender.

Rather than simply poking fun at advertising and its commercialisation, the works aim to complicate our learned response to the conventions of advertising, obscuring any glimpse of the product, while drawing attention instead to the messages projected by its physical features.

The result is a work which references the fundamental act of seeing, a self-reflexive consideration of documentation and as a means of investigating vision and the act of spectatorship.

In 2005 Connor completed his B.A.Hons in Fine Art at Goldmsiths College, and is currently finishing a post-graduate programme in sculpture at the Royal College of Art.

Following his time at Goldsmiths, he has worked closely as an assistant for the artists Darren Almond, Juan Cruz and Brad Lahore; he also continued his interest in working practices outside of the studio and worked for two years as a curator in Numbers Gallery, London and as a member of Capri Arts, producing original research culminating in a publication, exhibition and an artist newspaper.

Recent exhibitions have included; Aggregate at Churner and Churner, New York, China Girl at Frac Aquitaine, Bordeaux, France, Art Ramsgate 2011 in Ramsgate, England, and, Lovely Summer Sunshine Time at Howie Street, London.

Connor lives and works in London, England and continues to work on a wide range of art projects, exhibitions, panel discussions, workshops, texts, and publications. He is currently contributing to Palm-Springs, a periodical on sculpture representation in printed matter.
