HIPing

Remet is pleased to provide the precision investment casting industry with hot isostatic pressing (HIP) services through our partnership with Alcoa Howmet.

HIP is an acronym for Hot Isostatic Pressing. The process involves the simultaneous application of elevated temperature and isostatic pressure to a material for a specified period of time. Voids within the casting are reduced or eliminated through a combination of creep and diffusion bonding using this process. Primary applications are the reduction of microshrinkage, the consolidation of powder metals, ceramic composites, and metal cladding. Microshrinkage must be non-surface connected and contain no entrapped gas for HIP to be effective.
